Can you use salt on concrete to get rid of ice?

It is not recommended to use any type of salt on concrete.

Answer

The chemical reaction with the concrete causes it to begin melting the top layer of concrete. Damage caused by the salt may not begin to show until a few years later. Sand is the safest thing to use to reduce the ice on concrete.
