Why is basing important?

Why is basing important?

Basing is critical for creating a strong and stable foundation for your concrete or asphalt.

Answer

The base is the foundation that will be supporting your asphalt, concrete and even retaining walls. There are several reasons why it is important to create a solid base.

  • Building a solid support relieves some of the pressure on the structure as it endures freeze and thaw cycles which cause ground movement.
  • Basing is also the most critical point in setting the drainage for your project. Once a new material is laid it makes it much for difficult for it to sink through existing cracks or pot holes. It is important to shoot elevations in tight drainage areas so you do not end up with water in your garage or along your house because of a poorly designed drainage pattern.
